Chimney Balloon

Chimney Balloons are a simple, cost effective way to stop chimney draughts and reduce heat loss, so saving energy and making your home warmer.

The chimney balloon is effective mainly because of one single principle, warm air rises and cold air sinks.  With the chimney balloon we can stop both at once, keeping cold air from entering the room, and warm air from escaping the chimney.

Easy to install and remove, a chimney balloon is an inflatable bag made from a special laminate that makes them airtight, tear resistant and long-lasting.  It also has a special shape that allows a little ventilation on two corners to keep your chimney dry.

They have been designed to be used again and again and are completely safe - if accidentally heated, they shrivel up and deflate.

Available in 3 sizes:
Small - Typical Modern Fireplace - 38 x 23cm
Medium - Victorian Fireplace (Most Popular) - 60 x 30cm
Large - Georgian Fireplace - 90 x 38cm

How to choose the correct size Chimney Balloon:
Before sizing your chimney make sure your fireplace and chimney are cold with no hot ash in the fireplace.  If your chimney has a damper you should see a metal flap with a lever that closes the chimney.

Chimneys with a damper
The Chimney Balloon should be installed, generally above the damper. Select an area for its installation making sure that this does not interfere with the damper flap or any damper hardware.  The area must have parallel or slightly sloping walls ideally with texture for the Balloon to grab and lodge when inflated.
The damper ledge acts to provide extra support to the weight of the Balloon.  A Chimney Balloon can also be installed well above the damper, so it is possible to close the damper below it.

Measure the length and depth of the chimney in the location you have selected to install the Balloon.

Chimneys without a damper (a chimney with no closing mechanism)
Identify the narrowest part of your chimney within arms reach.  Choose an area to install the Chimney Balloon.  Make sure the area you select is not interfered with by any hardware or sharp edges in the chimney.  The area must have parallel or slightly sloping walls ideally with texture for the Balloon to grab and lodge when inflated.

Measure the length and depth of the chimney in the location you have selected to install the Balloon.
It is only necessary to measure approximately and choose the Chimney Pillow draught excluder of the approximate size or slightly bigger than your chimney.
