The Geometric Necklace is made on the remote island of Rodrigues using Coconut shells and recycled beer labels.
Coconut is a discarded material on the island. It is just about the only thing there that there is excess off and is one of the few sustainable resources available.
The coconut jewellery is made on the remote tropical island of Rodrigues, 650km east of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. It is made by disabled creoles working for a local organisation (Careco) founded 20 years ago by resident Englishman Paul Draper MBE.
Rodrigues suffers from chronic unemployment. Careco offers security to people with very few other opportunities and also has a small school for the disabled at the same site.
